Entrepreneurship is a lonely and dark path to forge. Hours staring at my computer screen, with nothing but Pandora and my fur-baby to keep my company, leave me longing for human interaction. More than that, I crave the kind of understanding that can only come from someone on a similar journey. That is exactly what I found at United.
Last Sunday I flew to Phoenix, Arizona to attend Showit United, a conference for photographers to learn, grow their businesses and celebrate community. I have had a Showit website for almost six years now (wow, hard to believe) and appreciate the creative freedom it allows me as a designer.
Equally integral to the Showit brand is their cultivation of community. They promote an atmosphere of compassion instead of competition, and their hashtag is #showiteerhugs. Doesn’t that just give you the warm fuzzies?
Regardless, I was still utterly terrified on my way to Phoenix. I knew no one there, I even had to be set up with roommate. Within minutes, however, I was surrounded by new friends and uplifted by a spirit of community and service. I made fast friendships with other boss ladies/solopreneurs who get this creative life and small business thing.
Returning to work this week, the path I am on seems slightly less lonely. I have found new friends, fellow creatives, and although we are spread across the country, we are helping to light each other’s paths.
Here I am with my fellow bossladies at the conference, Tiffany Joyce, Shanna Rene, and Tina Elizabeth. Show these sweet, fabulous ladies a little love, by checking out their working and following them.
xoxo.
