In the middle of her birthday party this last July, Melody announced to all of her friends that she and her husband John had decided to start the adoption process and become first time parents. I was sitting across from her that night and my heart immediately flooded with joy. Melody is one of the sweetest gals I know and I’m proud to call her a good friend. She is also an inspiring ladypreneur and I can only imagine what an amazing mother she’ll make.
Melody was one of the first people I really connected with after moving to Colorado Springs last year. A fellow graphic designer, and owner of Finicky Designs, she and I met through a Facebook group. When she noticed I was also located in Colorado Springs she invited me to coffee — and I’m so glad she did! I am incredibly grateful for all of our coffee and pedicure dates since.
As soon as Melody announced that she and John were adopting I knew I wanted to help. In case you were unaware, adoption is expensive. Really expensive. A big part of their journey so far has been fundraising efforts to help pay for all the expenses involved in the adoption process. Being a savvy marketing professional, Melody decided to create her own adoption website to raise funds and share her and John’s story. I thought they also needed photographs to announce their exciting news and help tell that story.
Melody and I decided we wanted their photos to be clean and sophisticated — because neither of us do ‘cheesy’ (and I feel like so many baby announcements are cheesy). We agreed on a studio session in my new studio space. Melody styled her session in her adoption brand colors (obviously her adoption site is branded… and quite fabulously!). And I photographed the images with a lot of white/negative space so she could overlay text, etc. in her designs.
I am so happy with how these images came out and love how Melody has been using them on her site! Please have a look around:
Melody and John are also currently hosting an adoption fundraising auction on Instagram with bunch of fabulous items — which would make wonderful Christmas gifts!! Take a peek and bid on some of these handmade treasures which will help this very deserving couple toward their adoption goal! The auction ends tomorrow at 10pm MST.
