New Branding Collection for Luxury Portrait Photographer // Shannon Squires Photography

If you’re a photographer and you’ve never heard of Shannon Squires, then prepare to have your world rocked.
Shannon is a powerhouse portrait artist. She’s an award winning photographer and industry leader who’s been featured in the Professional Photographers of America’s Loan Book, hosted her own workshops, taught business classes for photographers, has a series of editing tutorial videos, mentors other photographers, and hosts her own Facebook group Chasing Arrows with Shannon Squires — offering advice and inspiration to fellow photographers. She is also one of the sweetest people I know.
Shannon moved to Colorado Springs from California last year — and we met through a local Facebook group for styled shoots. Anyone who’s moved a business knows how hard it can be — I’ve talked before about my own struggle relocating my biz. But Shannon was an absolute champ at it. She hit the ground running and has already become one of the most sought after children’s portrait photographers in the area.
So when Shannon reached out to me to refine her branding, I was super excited.
She already had a logo — and initially got in touch because she just wanted to refine and expand her branding with official brand colors, fonts, etc. But after we met for a consultation, Shannon decided to go for it — and chose to do a complete rebrand with my Full Branding Collection.
She wasn’t sure she wanted to completely scrap her original logo — so for her experience I created three concepts, one ‘cleaned up’ version of the original, a twist on the original, and one that was a completely new concept. Shannon decided to go with a new logo, my ‘twist’ version, which had some hidden elements of the original but updated and refined her branding considerably.
To make the new logo and branding more high end and elegant (yet pay homage to her old design), I kept the same font — but cleaned up and customized the typography. One of my favorite parts of her new logo is the “U” that tucks up perfectly under the “Q” — these types of details really enhance a logo and make it feel truly unique. Her original design included a double “S” mark — so I reworked this into the filagree mark of her new logo. If you look closely you can see the double “S” repeating around the design. But this new look feels much more luxurious!
After Shannon selected her final logo design her Branding Experience continued with a full system of logos (secondary, alternate, submarks, and a watermark), brand pattern design, color palette and additional font selection. Then I designed her brand stationery collection.
One of my favorite pieces is Shannon’s new business card — I just love square cards! I think they’re different from your average business card, so they’re more memorable. And I love Shannon’s with the gold foil elements — tres chic! I completed her stationery collection with a note card, thank you card, and one of my favorite new offerings — a custom wax seal!
My ultimate goal for this project was to create an undeniably luxury brand — one that felt high end but playful enough to compliment and work seamlessly with Shannon’s fantasy children’s photography. And I’m so happy with how everything came together.
