In the last post, I taught you How To Build A Portfolio That Will Get You Booked! And you know that as a professional photographer, you need to have a website to share that perfectly curated portfolio with your Ideal Client.

By now you should have gone through your own portfolio, and removed any images that don’t make your Ideal Client scream, “OMG, that’s my photographer!”

So, now you’ve got the perfect images for your website.

But what else does it need to turn lukewarm visitors into click-happy clients, ready to book?

Well, a lot actually. And to many photographers, this part can be really overwhelming.

But, lucky for you, websites are my area of expertise!

So, today I’m going to walk you through the three things that AREN’T working on your website — and tell you how to fix them, pronto!

Tell Visitors What They Need To Know

It doesn’t matter how gorgeous your photographs are. If website visitors can’t find the information they’re looking for (and quick), you’re gonna lose them.

This post on 5 Critical Things Your Website Is Missing will help you figure out where you’re losing clients. But for now, let’s focus on a few key items:

1. What do you do?

It’s probably obvious from the wedding photos all over your site, but still, tell them you’re a wedding photographer! And what kind of wedding photographer… Do you specialize in high-end, 500-guest, multi-day events? Or do you focus on intimate outdoor weddings and elopements?

Tell your visitors, so they know if they’re in the right place.

2. Where are you?

Whether or not you want to shoot destination weddings, you still need to share where you’re located. For a lot of out-of-state couples, this will be a deal breaker… but it’s better to know that up-front, than waste your time emailing back and forth for days or weeks.

Secondly, posting your location is going to help you find the right clients that are close to you. And it will help your SEO too!

3. What next?

Okay, they’ve landed on your site. Check.

They like your work. Check.

They want to know more…

What’s next?

Surprisingly, most people need to be told. Or at least encouraged.

Which brings me to the next major thing that’s NOT working on your website…

Give Visitors A Reason To Contact You

I often ask my Brand Intensive students if they know what the goal of their website is.

They look at me blankly, or reply with some answer about “an online place to share my work.”

Nope.

Your website has one clear goal:

Get your Ideal Client to contact you.

And a good website is actually doing two things:

    1. Visitor A (Ideal Client) lands on your website and is guided to your contact page, where they connect with you.
    2. Visitor B (non-Ideal Client) lands on your website, and immediately realizes you’re not the right photographer for them, and leaves. (Thank goodness! You won’t waste any time emailing back and forth before they or you figure this out).

So back to option 1. Your website needs to provide a clear path from home page to contact page (with some information in between). And you need to provide enough incentive for them to fill out your contact form.

Tell them why they need to get in touchto see if their date is still available, to meet you for coffee, to learn more about your one-of-a-kind experience, or to download your pricing guide.

Whatever it is, give visitors a reason to contact you.

If they do, your website has done its job.

Now it’s up to you to book them.

Give Them Something To Remember

Be honest, are you proud of your website? Or is it kind of a mess… Like a hot mess.

Maybe it started out as a template, and you’ve been DIY-ing your way through… eventually creating a Frankenstein of a website. Eeek!

Or maybe it’s not a mess at all. Maybe it’s even worse… it’s unmemorable.

It’s bland, beige, forgettable.

Sad day.

Cuz if I’m your dream client and I land on your website, I need to know why I should book you over the millions of other photographers out there. And I need to know fast.

I don’t have time to waste on a messy or boring website. There are plenty of other ones for me to click on instead.

This, friend, is where proper branding and next level web design come in.

This is where I come in.

 Hi there! I’m Moriah.

I empower creative female entrepreneurs (just like YOU) with branding and websites that give them the confidence to succeed.

You’ve got enough on your plate. Between shooting, culling, and editing photos. Oh, and then there’s the bookkeeping, networking, emailing…. Oh yeah, and don’t forget you haven’t posted to your blog or Instagram in a while…

Girl, I get it. You’re hustling hard, trying to do. it. all.

And you know you need a website. Can you do it yourself?

Sure! You can buy a pretty template, plug your gorgeous photos into the pre-made galleries, and slowly DIY and Frankenstein the heck out of it. All the while, wondering why you’re just not booking those ideal clients…

Or, you can work with me.

You know how you’re, ahem, pretty damn good at shooting weddings? And that’s why a bride should book you — and NOT leave their precious wedding memories in the hands of Uncle Bob?

Well, guess what! I’m a rockstar when it comes to websites and branding. It’s what. I. do. And I’m really good at it. Especially for photographers!

But don’t take my word for it…

Should you?

Uh, no.
