Welcome to the Superbloom Coach podcast, where today we are diving into the transformative concept of self-made success and why you need to stop waiting and start making your coaching business dreams a reality. I’m Moriah Riona, your host, and I’m here to help you become the luxury coach and business leader you’ve always wanted to be.
In this post, we’ll explore the four common habits that hold so many life coaches back from self-made success and how to break free of them. If you’ve been waiting for a sign to take control of your coaching business and reach new heights, this is it! Let’s get started.
First off, let’s define self-made success. In a world full of “overnight success” stories and social media influencers seemingly achieving massive results overnight, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that success just happens to some people. But real, sustainable success doesn’t happen by chance or luck—it’s self-made. It’s built on hard work, perseverance, and a mindset that embraces failure as part of the process.
As coaches, it’s easy to fall into the trap of waiting—waiting for clients to find us, waiting for the right time, or even waiting for someone to discover our brilliance. But here’s the truth: waiting will never bring you the success you’re craving. Success is an intentional act. And as entrepreneurs, it’s up to us to create it. So, without further ado, let’s dive into the four things you need to stop doing if you want to create your own self-made success.
One of the biggest traps many coaches fall into is waiting to be discovered. We’ve all heard the glamorous stories of models, actresses, or entrepreneurs who were “discovered” and became overnight sensations. These stories can make us feel like if we just keep doing our thing, someone will eventually see our brilliance and success will magically arrive at our doorstep. But that’s not how it works.
If you’re waiting for someone to “discover” you, you’re giving all your power away. You’re waiting for validation from the outside world when, in reality, you already have everything you need to succeed.
Success doesn’t happen by chance. You can’t just sit back and hope that clients will find you or that your next big break will fall into your lap. Waiting for that perfect moment means you’re leaving your future in someone else’s hands. Stop waiting to be discovered and start making success happen on your own terms. Reach out for the speaking gigs, send that book proposal, or go after that dream client. You might face rejection (more on that in a moment), but every “no” you hear brings you one step closer to a “yes.”
How many times have you thought, “I’ll start my coaching business when the time is right,” or, “I just need to finish this one thing before I put myself out there”? Whether it’s waiting until your website is perfect, your logo is flawless, or you’ve secured that life coaching certification, we often use these excuses to delay taking action.
Here’s the hard truth: there will never be a perfect time.
The people who create self-made success aren’t waiting for perfect timing—they’re taking messy action. They’re putting themselves out there, even if things aren’t polished. And guess what? The feedback they get from clients and the experience they gain from being in the game is what helps them fine-tune their business and get even better over time.
Stop waiting for all the stars to align, and start making progress today. It’s far better to start, make mistakes, and adjust along the way than to wait for everything to be “just right.” Progress is always better than perfection.
As coaches, especially when we’re just starting out, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking we need to do everything ourselves. We build our websites, design our logos, handle all our marketing, and take on every client-facing task. This “I can do it all” mentality is often celebrated in the entrepreneurial world—but in reality, it’s one of the quickest ways to burn out and stunt your business growth.
The key to self-made success is recognizing where your strengths lie—your zone of genius—and outsourcing the rest. If you’re amazing at coaching, focus on coaching. Don’t spend countless hours trying to figure out how to design your website or manage your social media. Hiring experts for the tasks you’re not skilled at allows you to focus on what you’re great at, which, in turn, allows your business to grow faster.
For example, I now have an assistant who handles my social media, project coordination, and email management. I’ve hired a junior designer and am in the process of bringing on a lead designer for my studio, so I can step back and focus on the visionary work that grows my business. In my personal life, I’ve even outsourced cooking to a personal chef so I can stay focused on the things that matter most.
One of the biggest mistakes I see coaches make—especially women—is undervaluing their expertise. Maybe you’re hesitant to raise your rates, or you find yourself constantly giving discounts or taking on clients at lower rates than you should. It’s time to stop. Your expertise is valuable, and it’s time you started charging what you’re worth.
When clients come to you for coaching, they’re not just paying for your time—they’re paying for the years of experience, knowledge, and insights you bring to the table. They’re paying for the results and transformations that only you can provide. So, it’s essential to step into your role as an expert and claim your worth.
This is where luxury branding comes into play. As a luxury brand strategist, I help coaches build brands that not only look polished and professional but position them as the go-to expert in their micro-niche. Clients pay more for specialists, and the more specialized you become, the more you can charge. It’s time to stop undervaluing your expertise and start positioning yourself as the expert you are.
As coaches, we often carry the weight of perfectionism, fear of rejection, and the urge to control every aspect of our business. But real success—self-made success—comes from letting go of these limiting habits and embracing a mindset of growth and progress. When you stop waiting, start outsourcing, and claim your expertise, the path to success becomes clearer and easier to navigate.
Remember, self-made success isn’t just about creating wealth or growing your business. It’s about creating the life and business of your dreams by taking control of your own journey.
