If you’re a life coach, getting clients is probably top of mind. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to scale, it can feel overwhelming to figure out how to attract clients consistently. But don’t worry, I’m here to guide you! In this blog post, based on my recent Superbloom Coach podcast episode, I’ll share ten effective ways to find your next life coaching client. These strategies have helped me build my own luxury brand and coaching business, and they can work for you too!
Let’s dive in!
Before we jump into the strategies, let’s address the elephant in the room. Getting coaching clients is hard for many, especially if you’re new or transitioning into the business. You may be thinking that creating a website and posting on social media will be enough to bring in clients, but the truth is: it takes more than that. Success in coaching requires intentional strategies that allow you to connect authentically with your ideal audience.
Let me show you how.
Friends and family can be a great starting point. Reach out to people who already know and trust you, but be mindful of whom you offer your coaching services to. As a coach, you don’t want to “get in the pool” with someone who is too close to you emotionally because this can cloud your ability to help them effectively. However, you can ask your friends and family to refer people to you who they think might benefit from your services. Even though you may not want to coach them directly, they can still be valuable ambassadors for your new venture.
Pro tip: If you’re hesitant to ask them for referrals, think of it as offering them an opportunity to help someone they care about.
Social media is powerful, but simply posting online isn’t enough. You need to have a clear strategy. Focus on one platform where you know your ideal clients hang out. Do not overwhelm yourself by trying to be everywhere at once. Build consistency on that platform, learn the ins and outs, and ensure you’re showing up authentically and regularly.
For example, if your ideal client spends their time on Instagram, master Instagram first before expanding to another platform. You can share helpful content, use stories and reels, and engage directly with potential clients in the comments or DMs.
When you consistently post valuable content, whether it’s tips, insights, or personal stories, people start to associate you with the solutions they need. In time, they’ll think of you as the expert.
In-person networking is where the magic can happen. I’m an introvert, so I know this can feel daunting, but some of my best client relationships have started in real-life networking events. The connection you make in person can be more impactful than anything you’ll achieve online.
Look for networking events in your local area that align with your niche. For example, if you coach women entrepreneurs, find local businesswomen’s meetups. You never know who you’ll meet, and it could lead to lasting client relationships.
Public speaking is another highly effective way to attract clients. When you’re in front of an audience, you’re automatically seen as an expert. Offering free or low-paid workshops is a fantastic way to show off your expertise. You can give talks at local business groups or even online webinars. It’s an excellent opportunity to share your knowledge and build credibility.
When I was starting my business, I would offer free workshops to women’s business groups about branding. The results were incredible. Not only did people hire me afterward, but they also spread the word, helping me build my client base.
While in-person networking is excellent, online communities and forums are equally powerful. One of my favorite places to connect with potential clients is Facebook groups. Be mindful, though—don’t go into groups just to promote yourself. Instead, show up as a helpful resource.
Answer questions, provide value, and share links to your content (where appropriate). For example, if someone is asking for advice that aligns with your expertise, point them to a blog post or podcast episode you’ve created. By offering helpful information without directly pitching yourself, you build trust, which can later turn into business.
If you’re not already guesting on podcasts, you should be! Being a guest expert on other people’s podcasts can expand your reach to a whole new audience. It allows you to showcase your knowledge and provide value to listeners who are already interested in topics related to life coaching.
To get started, find podcasts that align with your niche. Many podcasters are actively seeking guests, and all you need to do is apply or respond to guest expert calls. Even if you’re nervous, this is a great way to establish your credibility in your field.
Content marketing is a long game, but it’s absolutely worth the effort. Start creating valuable content that positions you as the expert in your field. Whether it’s blog posts, YouTube videos, or podcasts, share your insights regularly. By providing free, high-quality content, you build trust and establish yourself as the go-to resource for your niche.
What’s amazing about content marketing is that clients often find you through your content. They may binge your blog or YouTube channel before they ever book a consultation, but by the time they contact you, they’re ready to hire. I’ve had clients who felt like they already knew me simply because they had consumed so much of my content.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is one of the best ways to drive organic traffic to your website. Optimizing your website for search engines allows potential clients to find you when they’re searching for solutions you offer. For example, if someone searches “how to get coaching clients,” your blog post (or podcast show notes) could show up as a top result.
The key to SEO success is to focus on keywords your ideal clients are searching for, not just professional jargon. Think about the language your clients use and make sure to weave those keywords into your blog posts, website, and other online content.
Word-of-mouth is one of the most effective marketing tools. Client referrals bring in new business without any additional marketing spend. Happy clients are often more than willing to spread the word about your services, especially if you make the process easy for them.
I’ve always focused on creating an unforgettable, luxurious experience for my clients, and this approach naturally encourages referrals. You don’t always need to incentivize referrals with money or discounts. Sometimes, just offering an amazing service is enough to get people talking about you.
Finally, don’t overlook the simple act of living your life and having conversations about what you do. Whether you’re at a coffee shop, waiting in line at the grocery store, or attending a social event, you could meet your next client. I always recommend carrying beautifully designed business cards, even in today’s digital age.
When you meet someone who could benefit from your coaching, don’t hesitate to mention what you do and hand over a card. You never know where these casual conversations might lead!
There you have it—ten proven strategies to help you attract more coaching clients. Whether you’re networking in person, optimizing your website for SEO, or leveraging your content marketing, there’s no shortage of ways to connect with potential clients.
The key takeaway? Take action! Implementing these strategies consistently will help you attract and book more clients, growing your coaching business to new heights.
