Last year our new house seemed a little devoid of holiday decor. Our house was actually pretty bare in general. After years of apartment dwelling we barely had the furnishings to fill our new abode. I had a hard time focusing on Christmas decorations when I felt like our home wasn’t even decorated for the everyday. I’ve spent this last year turning this house into a home — and decorating it in my own style (ahhh — something I’ve dreamed of my whole life!). So this winter I’ve finally felt ready to devote some energy to our holiday style too.
We’ve had a tiny little Christmas tree for the last couple of years, so I was thrilled when my mother-in-law gave us this 9’ pre-lit beauty. It is the perfect size for our “formal” living room area with its vaulted ceilings (which is actually the space that is currently being transformed into my portrait studio!). I’ve always known that this room would be used for my business so I’ve long had visions of filling it with branded decor and a luxe glam look — even for Christmas! I decided upon my brand colors of Black and Gold for this space. I really loved the idea of using these colors for my holiday decor too, instead of the traditional red and green.
Here is our sweet pup, Brandy Mae. No matter how hard I try, I can never seem to get a shot of this girl in focus! She does not like sitting still for photos…
And she’s off!
I’ve carried the black, white and gold palette throughout my house. However, in our family room — where we spend most of our time — I wanted to incorporate bold pops of color. We set up our mini tree from our apartment days in this space, along with colorful Christmas decor. I love the contrast between our two spaces. And I love that we can still use our little tree!
I hope you’ve enjoyed my little Holiday Home Tour! Finding my own holiday style has been a slow process — and I’m already dreaming up more plans for next year. But I’m really pleased with how everything is coming together, and excited to have my family joining us in our festive little home to Celebrate!
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!
