Step 1: To grow your business, you need to define your financial goals FIRST.
Imagine this: Your online coaching business is your main source of income. You have a waitlist of clients who are dying to work with you. You’re well-rested and have plenty of energy—and plenty of money. You’re living the life you’ve always wanted!
Sounds pretty fabulous, right?
Now, let’s talk about what you need to make that vision a reality. First, it’s important to define your financial goals. How much do you need to make to go full-time? Are you trying to replace the income from your current full-time job? Or are you setting your goal a little—or a lot—higher?
Think about the specific dollar amount that will allow you to confidently step away from your current job and focus solely on your life coaching business. Do you have your number in mind? Good—let’s continue the exercise!
Step 2: Understand the difference between revenue and profit for your online coaching business.
Before we go any further, let’s address a common misconception that often holds entrepreneurs back. Revenue versus profit.
We all dream of making six, seven, or even eight figures, right? Hit that ‘Like’ button if you’d love to see that kind of success!
But here’s the reality—it’s not just about the numbers on your sales report. Your revenue does not equal your profit. And if you’re not careful, you might find yourself making 6, 7, or 8-figures, yet still struggling to make ends meet.
You could be making $100,000 in your online coaching business right now. But if you’re spending $90,000 on Facebook ads, you’re not really making a 6-figure income, are you?
So I want to share something with you that will help…
As an online entrepreneur, I *highly* recommend that you read Profit First by Mike Michalowicz.
This is one of my top life coach tips! This book has been transformative for many entrepreneurs—myself included.
It breaks down how much you should pay yourself based on your business’s revenue. For example, if your annual revenue is less than $250K, you should pay yourself 50% of that revenue. But if you’re making $500K-1 million, you should pay yourself 20%.
The author also introduces a smart way to allocate your income into different categories. Those categories are:
- Real Revenue (total income)
- Profit
- Owner’s Compensation (your salary!)
- Tax
- Operating Expenses

Step 3: Determine what you ACTUALLY need to make to grow your business to full-time.
Now, let’s get practical. How much do you need to make to transition into full-time coaching? Consider your total income (revenue) versus your desired owner’s compensation (salary). It’s important to determine the specific financial target that will empower you to confidently make that leap.
