You know you’re meant to be a coach… but if we’re being honest, you don’t always feel like one.

Maybe you’re asking yourself:

  • Who am I to coach someone?
  • What if I don’t know enough?
  • What if they ask me something I can’t answer?

If any of that sounds familiar, you are NOT alone. Almost every coach struggles with confidence in the beginning. But here’s the good news—confidence isn’t something you’re born with—it’s something you build.

And in today’s episode, I’m giving you three simple ways to feel confident as a coach—even if you’re brand new.

Why Confidence Matters as a Coach

Confidence isn’t just nice to have—it’s essential to your success as a coach.

Because here’s the truth: If YOU don’t believe in your coaching, how can you expect anyone else to?

But confidence isn’t about knowing everything. It’s about trusting that you can show up, serve your clients, and help them get results.

And I know from experience—when I first started coaching, I had all the same fears.

But these three things helped me build my confidence fast, and they’ll do the same for you.

Three Ways to Build Confidence as a New Coach

1. Shift Your Focus from Yourself to Your Clients

Most new coaches struggle with confidence because they’re too focused on themselves.

  • “What if I mess up?”
  • “What if I don’t sound smart?”
  • “What if they don’t like me?”

But here’s the thing—coaching isn’t about you. It’s about your clients.

The moment you shift your focus to them and how you can serve, your confidence grows instantly.

Instead of worrying about how you look as a coach, ask yourself:

  • How can I make this session as valuable as possible for my client?
  • What’s one question I can ask that will help them gain clarity?
  • How can I hold space for them without feeling like I have to “fix” everything?

When you make your coaching about your clients’ transformation instead of your fears, everything shifts.

2. Get Coaching Experience (Even If It’s Small at First)

Confidence doesn’t come from reading books about coaching. It doesn’t come from certifications.

Confidence comes from DOING.

The more you coach, the more comfortable and confident you’ll feel—it’s that simple.

So if you’re feeling unsure, here’s what I want you to do: start coaching.

  • Offer free sessions if you need to.
  • Practice with friends or peers.
  • Show up and give value in conversations—whether that’s on social media, in a Facebook group, or in real life.

The act of coaching is what builds confidence—not waiting until you feel ready.

3. Have a Coaching Process You Believe In

One of the biggest reasons new coaches feel unconfident? They don’t have a clear process for coaching.

They show up to sessions unsure of what to do, which makes them feel uncertain.

But when you have a structured framework—or even a simple outline of how you help your clients—you feel way more confident.

This is exactly why I help my clients create coaching offers that feel solid—so they know exactly what they’re delivering to their clients and never feel like they’re “winging it.”

And when you believe in the process you’re taking your clients through, that confidence comes across in every single session.

Mindset: Choosing Thoughts That Create Confidence as a Coach

As coaches we know that our thoughts create our feelings—so if you want to feel confident, it starts with the thoughts you choose to believe.

Instead of thinking:

  • “I’m not ready to be a coach.”
  • “Who am I to help people?”
  • “What if I don’t know enough?”

Try shifting to thoughts like:

  • “I don’t have to be perfect to help someone.”
  • “I am always growing, and that makes me a great coach.”
  • “My clients don’t need me to have all the answers—they just need me to guide them to their own breakthroughs.”
  • “Every coach starts somewhere, and I’m choosing to start today.”
  • “The more I coach, the more confident I will become.”

Confidence isn’t something that magically appears—it’s built one thought at a time.

So choose the thoughts that serve you, take action, and trust that confidence will grow with you.

BTW, I’d love to know which thought you’re going to use before your next coaching session or discovery call—if you’re watching this on YouTube let me know in the comments—or DM me over on Instagram!
