An inspiring mindset coach for women over 40. Discover how Kym Showers created a dream life in the second half of life.

There are interviews you record…and then there are interviews that feel like a full-circle moment.

This episode is that for me.

Because today, I’m interviewing my own life coach—the fabulous Kym Showers.

Kym is a certified life coach who helps women over 40 create their best life in the second half of life—and I’m telling you right now: she’s the real deal. I’d been following her on Instagram for about a year, totally obsessed with her energy, her style, her brand, and the way she lives so boldly in her 60s—at a time when a lot of women are taught to fade into the background.

Spoiler: she did the opposite.

And honestly? I kept saying it out loud: I want to be Kym when I grow up.

So shortly after my 40th birthday, I DM’d her like, “Hey, you don’t know me…but I’m old enough and I want to work with you now.” And she’s been my coach ever since.

If you’ve been feeling that “something is percolating” as you approach 40—or you’re already in your 40s, 50s, 60s and you know you were made for more—this conversation is for you.

Meet Kim Showers—Coach for Women Over 40

Kym Showers is 64 years old, married to her dream man Jeff for 41 years, and has built a life that genuinely looks like a movie—in the best way.

She started coaching eight years ago, after being certified through The Life Coach School (and yes—she was in Brooke Castillo’s last in-person training in Dallas). At 56, she knew she wanted something different. She wanted to reinvent.

So she did.

She launched a podcast at 60 called Reinvented After 40, built her audience primarily through Instagram and her podcast, and has coached hundreds of women through massive transformations in the second half of life.

Her work is rooted in one big belief:

The second half of life can be the best half—if you decide it is.

Why Women Over 40 Are Just Getting Started

One thing Kym said that hit me immediately is that the world tries to hand women a story after 40:

Slow down. Take a backseat. Retire. Fade out.

Kym’s response?

Absolutely not.

She said other women are “landing their plane” at 64—while she’s just taking flight.

And honestly, I feel that in my bones.

I turned 40 last summer and I feel like I’m just getting started too. Like…why are we supposed to shrink now? Why are we supposed to become quieter, smaller, less visible?

We’re not.

But we have to decide we’re not.

Kym’s “Dream Life” Routine (And Why It Matters)

Kym isn’t inspiring because she has a pretty life. She’s inspiring because she’s intentional.

She built a daily routine that supports her energy, her mindset, her health, and her joy—and she treats herself like her most important person.

Here’s a snapshot of how she lives:

  • She’s in bed between 6–7pm
  • She wakes up at 3:30am
  • She puts on full makeup first thing (because she loves it, and it’s part of her identity)
  • She turns on her “party lights” (yes, literally)
  • She makes a beautiful cappuccino
  • And she takes the 5:00am OrangeTheory class—six days a week

And then she said something that explains everything:

“I pretend like my life’s a movie.”

That’s the mindset.

It’s not hustle. Not perfection. Not discipline for the sake of discipline.

Identity. Energy. Intention.

The Shift: Building a Dream Life First—Then the Dream Business

This is something I learned deeply in season one of Superbloom Coach (and honestly, from working with Kym):

For a long time, I thought I was building my dream business.

Then it clicked:

I’m building my dream life—and I’m building a dream business to match it.

Kym lives that.

She works less and less, makes more and more, and doesn’t run her entire life through the lens of “productivity.”

She’s got goals. She says yes to what aligns. And she says no to what doesn’t.

Her business isn’t heavy.

It’s her.

Why You Need a Coach (Especially When You’re Going Big)

I launched Superbloom Coach because 40 was my Superbloom year—and I set a big goal for myself.

I wanted to make a million dollars.

And I knew: if I was going to hold that level, I needed support.

Because your brain will try to keep you safe. It will keep you small. It will tell you stories that feel true—but aren’t facts.

Kym said the job of a coach is to help you:

  • separate facts from story
  • watch yourself instead of being swallowed by your patterns
  • build self-responsibility, discipline, and self-concept
  • become the version of you who can hold what you want

And then she dropped the line that changes everything:

You don’t become her after the money comes.
You become her first.

“Million-Dollar Mariah”—Identity Before Evidence

Kym actually coined the phrase Million-Dollar Mariah for me—and it became the anchor for so much of our work.

Here’s what she taught:

You don’t wait for the million dollars to arrive so you can finally feel confident, worthy, powerful, and expanded.

Because that’s not how it works.

You become the woman who creates a million dollars before it’s created.

That means you decide:

  • What does she wear?
  • What does her routine look like?
  • How does she think about money?
  • How does she make decisions?
  • What does she tolerate?
  • How does she show up every single day?

And then you live like her—starting now.

Not when it feels safe.

Not when it’s “proven.”

Now.

Treat Every Day Like It’s Your Birthday

This is one of my favorite parts of the entire conversation.

Kym shared a realization she had years ago: on her birthday, she was different.

She woke up excited, got ready early, expected good things, was ready for the magic, and she was available for celebration.

Then she asked herself:

What if I treated every day like it was my birthday?

And she started practicing it.

Not as a cliché. As a discipline.

Because she believes:

  • Life is meant to be celebrated
  • Magic is always available
  • If you’re not expecting it, you’ll miss it

This is the kind of mindset that changes your whole identity.

Permission: The Only Person Who Needs to Approve Your Life Is You

We talked about something so real here: women waiting for permission.

Permission to want more, to spend money, to celebrate, and permission to choose themselves.

I shared a story about my own birthday—how for years I expected my husband to throw a party, then felt disappointed because it wasn’t what I wanted.

Then last year I threw myself a $60,000 birthday party and realized:

Oh. I can give myself what I want.

Kym’s response was everything:

  • You don’t need permission outside of you
  • The only permission you need is your own
  • The mountain is never outside of you—it’s always your story, your beliefs, your self-concept

And she said one of her most powerful beliefs:

You’ve got to want what you want.

Not apologize for it, minimize it or rationalize it.

Want it.

Then go create it.

Money Mindset: Why Women Should Love Money (And Talk About It)

This part of the conversation was especially powerful because inside Superbloom Coach Society, we’re talking about money mindset all month.

Kym is unapologetic:

She loves money.

And she believes women should too—because money in the hands of women is powerful.

She talked about:

  • building a relationship with money (instead of hiding from it)
  • seeing money as an exchange for life and freedom
  • being proud of what you create
  • refusing to shrink around wealth

She also said something so important:

A lot of rich women don’t act rich.

Many downplay their success. Others hide it. Too often, embarrassment creeps in.

Kim believes proud, wealthy women create permission for other women to expand.

Why the Second Half of Life Is the Most Powerful

Kym described the second half of life like this:

The first half is building a container.

The second half?

You get to break it.

She talked about how in her younger years she cared deeply about being liked, fitting in, and following the rules.

Now?

  • she trusts herself most
  • she doesn’t ask for opinions
  • she deletes what doesn’t serve her
  • she lets go—over and over and over again

And she said something I want every woman to hear:

We get to make it all up.

The second half of life is where you get to become the most confident, colorful, bold, brilliant version of you—without the weight of everyone else’s expectations.

The “Burnout-to-Reinvention” Pipeline (And Why It’s a Gift)

I shared something I’ve been seeing constantly in my work: so many of my coaching and branding clients are women in their 40s and 50s who did everything “right.”

They checked the boxes.

They achieved success.

And then they hit a wall.

Not because they failed.

But because that container was never built for them.

That burnout?

It often becomes the exact moment that wakes you up.

And entrepreneurship—especially building a personal brand—can become the most powerful vehicle for reinvention because it forces you to ask:

Who am I really?
What do I want?
What do I believe I’m worthy of?

Kym’s Final Advice: If You Want the Best Half, Do This

When I asked Kym what she’d tell a woman who’s longing for the second half of life to be the best half, she didn’t hesitate:

Hire a coach.

Because you can’t always see your own blind spots from inside your own brain.

A coach helps you become the watcher of you—so you can stop letting the old story run your life.
