On Saturday I’ll be two weeks out from my wedding day. It’s hard to not be counting down at this point. All of the “big” decisions have been made, I just have a long list of “little” items to check off. This has been a crazy season for me for sure. Between wedding planning and tons of client work, my own branding project has fallen to the back burner. However, I haven’t completely forgotten about my “Project Rebrand” – so I thought it was about time for an update, and today I’m excited to finally share my very own Brand Portraits with you.
Brand Portraits are a branding service that I offer my own clients. They, quite simply, are portraits of you, doin’ your Bosslady thang, and they can be implemented across all aspects of your brand. Think about your “about page,” your Twitter profile pic, your Instagram feed, and marketing pieces. Are you showing your client what you look like? As a boutique or personal brand you might think you are selling photography, or hairstyling, or interior design, or… (fill in the blank), but you are actually selling YOURSELF. Since you are selling yourself, don’t keep potential clients guessing about you. As much as I preach about the importance of a solid logo, a professional image of your bright, smiling (read: welcoming) face is just as important. [You can view more examples of Brand Portraits here, here, and here.]
With Project Rebrand underway, I thought it was time that I updated my own Brand Portrait. I enlisted the help of my brother as photographer, and my good friend, Kerry Hughes, a fashion and prop stylist, to help me bring everything together. I obviously needed another photographer to shoot the session – since I have neither the time nor the patience to set up a tripod and remote to take my own pics. However, you may wonder why a stylist.
Can I go shopping for my clothes? Of course I can. But like my fellow bossladies I tend to be a little too DIY for my own good. I mean, I ended up with a degree in graphic design after starting my own photography business because I decided at some point that I needed to learn how to design my own website. Pretty crazy actually.
I love being a photographer and a designer but now I draw the line there. Years of experience have shown me that while I’m really good at what I do – it’s worth it for me to invest in other professionals who are really good at what they do. That is why I hire an accountant. I’d rather make money shooting weddings and designing logos then use that income to pay an accounting professional, instead of wasting a lot of time (time I could be working on client work – making money) trying to figure it out myself. And guess what, just like when people hire me to photograph their weddings and it turns out top notch, when I hire other professionals to share their talents with me I get awesome results. Unlike if I tried to do everything myself.
Together, Kerry and I created a look and pulled together a wardrobe for my portraits. We chose clothing and accessories that were consistent with my brand, both in style and color. [You can view my new logo and brand board here] I am incredibly happy with how my Brand Portraits turned out. A huge thanks to my collaborators, Zachary and Kerry, for all of their help and expertise.
If you’re a bosslady (or a bossman!) who is still relying on a grainy iPhone pic for your business headshot maybe it’s time to start presenting a better image of yourself. Let’s meet up to chat about your portraits! Contact me today for more info.
xoxo.
