2 years ago, I did something that felt a little crazy at the time…

I QUIT social media.

Pretty shocking, right?

Especially considering I run an online business and rely completely on the internet for growth.

Are you wondering why I did it? I revealed what led to my decision to quit in this recent video—and it really resonated with my audience.

This topic is something we ALL struggle with as online entrepreneurs! When I shared that I quit Facebook entirely and deleted all of my Instagram posts, I could feel a collective sigh of relief from my audience.

So I wanted to create a follow-up video and share exactly what I do to grow my business instead of marketing on social media.

And—spoiler alert—my strategy now is a lot less draining, more fulfilling, and wayyy more effective than social media ever was for my business!

In this video, I’m teaching you what to do to grow your business—without wasting your time and energy on social media.

And to begin, I’m going to answer the question everyone is asking…

Is social media necessary for online businesses?

Nope! It’s really not.

And my business is living proof! I used to have a more robust social media marketing strategy, but I never saw a great return on my investment.

I realized that having over 10K followers on Instagram didn’t mean anything when it came to paying clients knocking on my door. Plus, the constant comparison trap was horrible for my mental health!

So I decided to stop wasting my resources on social media—and I shut down my Facebook and revamped how I used Instagram. Now, it serves as a way to showcase my portfolio, and that’s IT.

With this massive shift in my strategy, I’ve seen incredible success. In fact, v Hit that ‘Like’ button down below if YOU want to make a change like that for yourself.

And honestly, it couldn’t have come at a better time in my life. As we speak, I’m returning to my business from three months of maternity leave. This precious time has helped reaffirm my mission to be intentional about how I spend my time. I’m so glad I’ve learned to let things go that no longer serve me or my business—so I can spend my energy where it counts.

Life After Quitting Social Media: What I’m Doing Instead

As an online entrepreneur trying to build authority in your niche, you DEFINITELY need a content marketing strategy. But you can achieve that without draining yourself on social media.

The three powerful platforms I use in my content marketing strategy are YouTube, Pinterest, and my blog. You might consider YouTube or Pinterest to be “social media” platforms—but really, they’re search engines. And they’re great ways for people to find you as they search for solutions to their problems.

My strategy is to create high-value, long-form content, like videos and blog posts, that are packed with details and tips that my audience would find helpful.

Why do I focus on blogs and videos? Because they’re evergreen.

When content is evergreen, it holds its value years after it’s created—and it has the power to keep attracting leads forever. So, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook content would NOT be considered evergreen because it only has a shelf-life of about 24 hours.

My blog posts permanently live on my website so they can deliver value to my ideal clients indefinitely. And my YouTube videos can be searched for and viewed at any point in time after I upload them. I’ve even had YouTube videos that have gone viral (for me) over two years after they were published!

Why is long-form content more valuable? Because it builds trust.

It’s hard to build a deep connection in the fast-paced environment of social media feeds. And you can’t really establish your authority and expertise over a couple of graphics and a caption—not in a meaningful way, at least.

Long-form content gives you an opportunity to build a deeper connection with your audience by providing them with the helpful information they’re looking for. And you can have a bigger impact on your audience because you’re actually helping them—not just selling to them.

Here’s how YOU can successfully quit social media, too.

If you’re an introvert like me, my strategy probably sounds refreshing to you. Because when you share high-value, in-depth content, it’s like having a meaningful conversation one-on-one with your closest friends.

Social media, on the other hand, feels like a big, loud, crowded party—an introvert’s nightmare. And you’re only able to serve your audience with trendy content that’s surface-level at best. There’s no real connection there!

But I know some people thrive in the social media environment. Which do you prefer—the loud party or the deep conversation? Let me know in the comments!

To build genuine connections and establish authority, I suggest you give the high-value, long-content strategy a try—whether it’s on YouTube, your blog, or a podcast. My biggest tips here are: be consistent and don’t be afraid to share generously. Remember, you want to become your ideal client’s expert.

Not only will you build trust with your audience with this approach, but you’ll also be able to grow your email list by offering opt-ins throughout your free content. And once you have those email addresses, you can serve your audience in an even more personal way.

Because the more you can deliver value, the better. It’s how you step into the “expert” role with your audience.
