So, you know you want to be a coach, but how do you figure out exactly what kind of coaching business to start?
Should you be a life coach, a business coach, a mindset coach? What about health coaching, career coaching—relationship coaching? And how do you know which coaching niches will actually bring in paying clients?
I see so many new coaches getting stuck here, overthinking their coaching niches for months—even years—because they don’t want to “pick the wrong thing.”
But here’s the truth: choosing a coaching niche isn’t about limiting yourself—it’s about making your business easier to grow.
And by the end of this episode, you’ll have complete clarity on how to pick the right coaching niche—so you can stop overthinking and start building your business.
Hey there, I’m Moriah Riona, an award-winning luxury brand designer, luxury branding coach, and the host of the Superbloom Coach Podcast, and this is Superbloom Coach Presents: The Ultimate Guide to Starting Your Life Coaching Business!
Every single day this month, I’m walking you step by step through building a coaching business that actually works.
If you haven’t grabbed the free workbook yet, do it now—it’s going to guide you through everything we cover in this series so you can take action right away.
Let’s talk about why picking a niche is so important.
I know a lot of new coaches hate the idea of niching down. You don’t want to limit yourself. You want to help everyone!
But here’s the thing—when you try to help everyone, you actually help no one.
Think about it like this: If you needed heart surgery, would you go to a general doctor? Or would you go to a heart specialist?
Coaching works the exact same way. The more specific you are, the easier it is for your dream clients to find you and say YES to working with you.
And the best part? Choosing a niche doesn’t lock you in forever. It just gives you a starting point, so you can start marketing yourself and attracting clients now.
So, let’s figure out what kind of coaching business you should start.
A great coaching niche starts with a problem. What challenges have you overcome? What skills, experiences, or training do you have that can help others?
For example, I have a client, Elizabeth, who knew she wanted to coach women. But that was way too broad. When we worked together, she realized her true ideal clients were actually women doctors, like herself.
And once she made that decision? Everything got easier. She knew exactly how to speak to her audience, and they knew her coaching was made just for them.
So, think about your journey. What problems have you solved for yourself—or for others? That’s where your coaching business starts.
Your niche isn’t just about the what—it’s also about the who.
Because let’s be honest, you’re going to spend a lot of time with your clients—so you better love working with them!
This is something I help my students figure out inside Dream Client Accelerator™—because once you define your dream client, your business feels so much easier and more exciting.
So, ask yourself:
The more aligned your niche is with you, the more natural and effortless your business will feel.
Coaching is a business, not a hobby. So your niche has to be something people are already investing in.
Think about the problems people already spend money on solving:
If you’re choosing a niche in one of these areas, great—you’re on the right track. If not, ask yourself: “Would I pay for this coaching? Do I know other people who would?”
If the answer is yes—you’re off to a good start
Now it’s your turn. Answer those three questions:
That’s the foundation of your coaching niche.
And here’s the thing—you don’t have to get it perfect on Day 1. Your niche will evolve as you work with clients. But choosing something now will help you start getting clients—and that’s the most important thing.
And I know what you might be wondering… Do I need a certification before I can actually start coaching?
That’s exactly what we’re talking about in tomorrow’s episode—Do you really need a coaching certification to be a successful coach? The answer might surprise you.
So subscribe to my channel, grab the workbook, and I’ll see you in the next episode!
