So let’s dig in!

Before you get started on creating a coaching program…

For best results, let’s make sure you’re doing things in the right order. If you’re at the point where you’re ready to create your signature coaching program, then you should already be crystal clear on who you serve—and how you do it.

If you’re not quite there yet, check out my last video, How to Build a Luxury Brand for Your Coaching or Consulting Business, first. Then, come back here for your next steps!

Step #1: Survey your audience

No matter how far along you are in your business, this step will continue to be relevant and essential to your success. So even if you’ve already identified your ideal client, niche, and solution—and know them like the back of your hand—I still always recommend surveying your audience regularly.

This is because their needs will change over time. You shouldn’t just assume you know what they need or desire. Your audience is growing right along with you, and you’ll need to periodically reassess how you can best serve them. You might be surprised at what you find out!

How to survey your niche

One of the best ways to survey your audience is to create an online survey form. In it, you’ll include pointed questions that get to the heart of what their current struggles are. You can create this form for free through Google Forms.

Then, you’ll just need to get the word out about the survey. Here are some ideas for asking your audience to complete it:

  • Compose an email with a genuine request for the reader to complete your survey—make sure to include the link to the survey!
  • Post the form on your social media platforms—for quick and easy engagement.
  • For a more personal approach, invite some of your previous clients to a 30-minute interview—and offer a Starbucks gift card to thank them for their time.

These ideas are great for more established businesses with larger audiences. But what should you do if you’re just starting your business, and you don’t have many clients or an email list to survey? Luckily, thanks to the internet, there are lots of ways you can find out what your target audience needs. You can:

  • Scan Facebook groups where your ideal client hangs out—notice what questions they’re asking and what they’re looking for help with.
  • Check out the YouTube comments section on relevant videos—you can learn so much here!
  • Search through the forums on Reddit—with 52 million daily users separated into super specific groups, this is a great resource for finding niche information.

After you’ve identified what your audience is looking for, it’s time to move on to step #2.

Step #2: Outline your signature coaching program

You may find yourself Googling things like, “signature coaching program template”—but I’m here to share how to get started from scratch. First, you’ll need to write out each step of the framework or process you’ll use to help your ideal client. Be sure to include every detail of how they will achieve the transformation you’re promising.

And while you’re hashing this out, it’s important to nail down the answers the following questions:

  • How long will your program be? There’s a common misconception that longer is better—when, in fact, the opposite is true. People don’t necessarily want more time with you… they want their problems SOLVED. And if you can solve their problems quicker, that fast turnaround will enable you to charge a premium.
  • What are the dynamics of the program? Decide if it makes more sense for your program to be one-on-one, in a group, or a self-paced online course.
  • How often will you be coaching your clients? Does your schedule allow for one-hour calls once a week, or is it more realistic for you to commit to once a month?
  • How will you deliver your coaching and content? There are so many options! You could use Zoom, a phone call, an in-person meeting, or even a course platform, like Teachable or Kajabi.
  • What other deliverables are included? Will you include worksheets, guides, or other resources to add value to your program?

Once you have clarity on all of these elements, it’s time to move on to step #3.

Step #3: Price Your Signature Coaching Program

Listen—I know, pricing can be scary! But I want you to avoid the temptation to undercut your value just to get clients. If your price is too low, what you’re really doing is communicating that you don’t think your program is valuable. And that means you won’t attract the best caliber of clients.

So my tip for you is this: Price for the transformation you provide, not the features of the program. As long as you’re effectively solving your ideal client’s exact problem, they’re not going to care how many deliverables are included in your program.

That means you’ll need to cut the fluff––and don’t spend time on things that won’t actually move the needle for your client (or yourself). What a relief, right? So get on board and type “No more fluff!” in the comments!

And now it’s time for the fun part!

Step #4: Create Your Program Platform and Deliverables

This is where you get to pour all of your expertise and passion into a value-packed program that’s custom-made for your audience. Talk about fulfilling work! Hit that ‘Like’ button below if you agree.

And to give you some ideas, I’m going to let you in on a brief overview of what we do in our program for our VIP clients. We create an entire brand system for our clients’ programs

This means whether their programs are hosted on Teachable, Kajabi, or another platform, we’re going to ensure their program’s signature brand colors and fonts, all graphics and elements, and the program’s specific logo show up consistently throughout the platform.

Then, for a truly cohesive experience, we create all of the other program visuals to match. This includes things like custom slide decks, worksheets, guides, and graphics for audio files and videos.

The reason we do this is simple: We know how important it is to have high-end visuals and a high-end experience if you want to attract high-ticket sales. So we help our clients achieve this by building out their program platforms to be completely on-brand.

Our signature program enables us to elevate our VIP clients’ businesses—and empower them to charge more for their incredible services. Now, our VIP program is by invitation only, but when you reach the $100K mark in your business, we’d love to consider you for the program.

See how our program provides a clear solution for our clients? Our process is unique to our brand, but what we’re really doing is responding to our client’s desire to increase their income. It’s as simple as that!

There you have it: The elusive process for how to build a coaching program is now demystified.
